Green light for reorganisation of RCA’s contract logistics

Rail Cargo Austria’s contract logistics division to be integrated in the new company European Contract Logistics (ECL) by the end of this year

The ÖBB group is setting the course to reorganise their contract logistics division these days. The supervisory board of Rail Cargo Austria AG and ÖBB Holding have decided to launch a new organisational structure improve service for customers and increase value added for the railway company. Mag. Christian Kern, CEO at ÖBB, describes the action as a „forward strategy“ when talking to the Austrian newspaper Wirtschaftsblatt. Their objective was to sustainably lead the contract logistics division to the profit zone, which is serving customers like Coca-Cola, Nestle, Novartis, Porsche Holding or Sony.

The core element of the redesigned general cargo and warehouse logistics strategy is outsourcing the respective business segments from Rail Cargo Austria AG. The related activities will be implemented by the new subsidiary named European Contract Logistics (ECL) based in Vienna. The company will have 950 employees in place of the previous 1,300 employees. Annual turnover of EUR 180 million is generated through services of the Austrian organisation and five foreign subsidiaries in Slovenia, Serbia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In parallel, closer integration with network partners is planned as part of the international restructuring.
