Sweden-Austria/Czech Republic: DHL Freight launches Viking-Express

New direct connection for general cargo shipments: Viking-Express takes three days to cover the route from Sweden to Austria and the Czech Republic v. v.

DHL Freight has extended its service for groupage (LTL) shipments on the trade lane between Sweden, Czech Republic and Austria by establishing a daily direct service for general cargo. Due to fixed scheduled, daily departures from the hubs, end-to-end lead times between the markets improved from previously up to five to now just three days.

Following the Vikings who established routes throughout Europe in the early Middle Ages, the internally route is titled „Viking Express“.

Market requirements have been rising on this route lately in line with a growing demand for quality improvements. “The highly reliable and now improved door-to-door lead times will allow our customers to improve their production cycles,“ says Sven Bobzin, Network Manager DHL Freight. The automotive industry e.g. could hence reduce storage capacity.

The „Viking Express“ is part of the Euroconnect groupage network. In the premium segment, the product DHL Eurapid is available on this route, which provides day-definite deliveries and a special customer service.

The „Viking Express“ starts in Helsingborg in southern Sweden. On the journey to Brno in the Czech Republic there are no stopovers on other DHL Freight Terminals. In order to achieve the short term, drivers change underway. Via the Hub in Vienna, also Slovakia, Hungary and South European countries are linked to the fast route.
