Swiss World Cargo: Lightweight containers for security shipments

Swiss World Cargo’s new lightweight containers increase payload and reduce fuel consumption on long haul routes

Swiss WorldCargo replace part of their unit load devices for security transports by state-of-the-art lightweight containers. The entire XKN fleet, deployed on long-haul routes, will be equipped with AVA-type containers, provided by Jettainer. The introduction of the 180 containers started last summer. About 50 containers have been replaced by now. Takeover of the remaining units shall be completed by the end of 2015.

The lightweight containers are produced by Dokasch, a leading manufacturer of air freight equipment. The AVA units are made from carbon fibres and recycled composite materials. They weigh about 40 kilograms less than XKN, which increases payload significantly and reduces fuel consumption and CO2-emissions.

Swiss WorldCargo is the air freight division of Swiss International Air Lines AG. Through their global network of about 120 destinations in more than 80 countries and a widely ranged service portfolio the division creates added value for customers.
