Swiss WorldCargo creates 50 quality corridors for pharmaceuticals

The Swiss WorldCargo hub in Zurich once again confirms its position as the leading airport in handling pharmaceutical shipments: Swissmedic, the regulatory and supervisory authority for pharmaceuticals and medical products in Switzerland, renewed the Cargologic’s handling area’s compliance certification in September 2017.

The handling partner of Swiss WorldCargo was one of the first to meet the requirements of GDP certification (Good Distribution Practice) in 2014, and to receive IATA’s Center of Excellence for Independent Validators CEIV certification for the processing of pharmaceutical products in 2015.

Over the past two years, Swiss WorldCargo has invested massively and, in cooperation with the handling partners, adjusted the standards to the best practice model worldwide. A network of certified trade routes is being introduced to ensure the highest quality standards worldwide and to maintain product integrity along the entire cold chain. By the end of 2017, around 50 quality corridors are to be created for the major pharmaceutical destinations.

Swiss WorldCargo is also committed to expanding the Envirotainer QEP (Qualified Envirotainer Provider) program, which recognises partner airlines and their competent management of Envirotainer Active units in the network. Already 30 stations within the system alliance of the airline have received this accreditation – more will follow in the coming months.

In addition, Swiss WorldCargo has further improved the handling of pharmaceuticals and medical products by introducing the additional temperature range “ERT” in the refrigerated warehouses at the major pharmaceutical destinations.
