The end for Georgi Transporte’s own fleet

Georgi Transporte: Specialist for air freight-substitute transport about to change into freight agent

A serious change is to take place within the European market for air freight-substitute transport. The Georgi Transporte enterprise, based in Burbach (Germany), adjusts its business model to the difficult market conditions. Instead of freight carrier, the company is going to act as an agent, who mediates transports to sub-freighters. According to a report of DVZ Deutschen Verkehrs-Zeitung (German transport paper) the company has decided to dispose of 220 vehicles and cut the staff by 160 persons.

The Georgi Transporte management states the following reasons for this drastic measure: fall of the freight rates, financial burdens on the carrying branch by the increased road toll in 2009 and the legal regulations regarding the reduction of emissions as well as driving and rest times. Moreover the enterprise lately registered declines in turnover, which is an extreme contradiction to additional burdens, from an economic point of view.
