Thriving Road Services of the Geis Group in 2013

Strategy of qualified growth meant turnover of EUR 839 million to the Geis Group last year; promising start into the year 2014

The Geis Group with headquarters Bad Neustadt, Franconia, state they have had a successful transition to the year 2014. They had started new customer projects and expanded their national/international locations, said Hans-Georg Geis and Wolfgang Geis, managing associates. Thus they expect the sound growth to continue, and they reckon with a turnover increase at about last year’s level.

In 2013 the internationally operating logistics provider achieved turnover of EUR 839.2 million, beating last year’s figure by 5.7 per cent. “Given the economic situation, we are satisfied with this result“, said Hans-Georg Geis and Wolfgang Geis.

From the three business segments of the Geis Group it has been the Road Services segment, which generated the highest percentage of the growth in turnover in 2013: Road transport in Germany and throughout Europe grew 17.7 per cent. Also the business segment Logistics Services, which also covers the Geis Group’s contract logistics activities, was successful, reporting turnover growth of 3.2 per cent. However, the Air + Sea Services, handling international air and sea freight, showed losses turnover of 11 per cent.

In the reporting period Geis expanded its national presence by taking over the Logwin locations in Nuremberg, Gochsheim/Schweinfurt and Ludwigsburg. Now they act as Geis Transport und Logistik GmbH. On an international level the enterprise established its own network in Poland through two acquisitions, started operating a new transhipment centre in Slovakia and agreed on a strategic cooperation with Quehenberger Logistics in Middle and Eastern Europe.

At its 104 locations the corporate group employed 4,664 persons at the balance sheet date, which is 12.4 per cent more than in 2012. At the same time the number of transport and logistics orders grew by 11.2 per cent to 14.67 million shipments, 8.36 million of them were parcels. The volume transported rose 14.6 per cent to 4.33 million tonnes.
