thyssenkrupp invests €70m in logistics

thyssenkrupp Materials Services is investing some €70 million in modernising and expanding its European warehousing and logistics network.

It is building a logistics centre and warehouses in Germany, Poland and Hungary as part of its “Materials as a Service” strategy.

Some €60m will be invested in a 36,000 sq m logistics centre in Lower Saxony, which will store up to 20,000 tons of materials to guarantee maximum material availability. It is scheduled to go into operation in 2021.

Another €11m will go into the expansion of its sites at Nowe Marzy in Poland and the Budapest. With around 13,500 square meters of storage space, the warehouse in Nowe Marzy is an addition to the hub in north Poland, which was built in 2017. The new facility in Budapest will cover a space of around 6,500 square meters.

Klaus Keysberg, chief executive officer of thyssenkrupp Materials Services, said: “Innovative logistics, automation and digitalization will help us improve our performance and our productivity.
