trans-o-flex expands transhipment capacity in Germany and the Netherlands

trans-o-flex Schnell-Lieferdienst has announced it will be expanding its transhipment capacity in Germany and the Netherlands. For this purpose, the new sites in Bergkirchen to the west of Munich and Trebbin in Brandenburg will start operating on September 3.

The site in Bruchsal will complete an expansion at the beginning of October. In addition, a new central hub for the Netherlands has been running in Den Bosch since the beginning of this month. "With our continuous expansion and optimisation of the network, we are following the strategy of relieving the strain on existing sites with relatively small expandable sites and, above all, making the delivery to conurbations more flexible", says Wolfgang Weber, the Managing Director of trans-o-flex Logistics Group responsible for operational issues. "We are shortening the routes to the very last mile, which means we can organise express deliveries more easily."

Bergkirchen will relieve the strain on the existing system partner sites of trans-o-flex in Munich and Augsburg in making deliveries. The transhipment facility at the new site is 6,800 sq m in size and has 21 truck gateways.

The new site in Trebbin in Brandenburg supports the Berlin site. The 4,200 sq m large facility has six truck gateways.

The expansion which has been underway at the site in Bruchsal since the middle of June is scheduled to be completed by October 4, 2011. The transhipment facility will increase in size by 1,700 sq m. With a total transhipment area of 4,530 sq m, the capacity in Bruchsal will increase by approximately 60%. The extension offers room for an additional twelve transporters and ten trucks.

The new central hub in the Dutch city of Den Bosch bundles and speeds up the transport and sorting workflows for trans-o-flex shipments to the Netherlands and reduces the stress on the German sites in Cologne and Duisburg. The hub will be put into operation in stages: in August the operation in Den Bosch has started with the takeover and delivery functions in Eindhoven and its surrounding areas. The function as central delivery point for shipments to Holland will be added in September; this will still be carried out by Cologne until then. In addition to the central bundling of all transports from Germany to the Netherlands, the pre-sorting for the various Dutch delivery locations also takes place in Den Bosch. To do this, a fully automatic sorting plant for parcels was installed. It has 40 destinations and is designed for 5,000 packages per hour as a continuous output. 34 direct lines connect the site with German transhipment points. The 5,000 sq m large facility has 20 truck gateways.
