Transmec Group to invest EUR 5.5 million in intermodal equipment

EUR 5.5 million investment in 200 Huckepack trailers enables Transmec Group to establish new intermodal links in Europe

Increasing customer demand for Transmec Group’s new intermodal service between Belgium and Romania has led to the Group investing EUR 5.5 million to buy 200 Huckepack trailers.

In addition to their use on the trains, the new trailers – made up of 80 mega and 120 standard trailers – allow top and side loading, enabling Transmec to respond to any kind of customer request.

The investment also allows Transmec to develop new lines and buy space on existing intermodal routes and the Group is already looking to establish each-way links between the following countries: Italy-Belgium / Italy-Netherlands / Italy-UK / Italy-Romania

In partnership with P&O Ferrymasters, Transmec Group currently operates a rail service with three weekly departures between Curtici (Romania) – Zeebrugge (Belgium) and it is planning to develop a new service from Romania to Italy that could begin as early as June 2015.

Danilo Montecchi, CEO of Transmec Group, says: “There is growing interest in intermodal transport and our latest investment will enhance our wide-ranging services to our customers, offering them solutions that are flexible and cost-effective as well as eco-friendly.”
