Dachser is awarded major Zumtobel contract

Finished goods warehouse of Zumtobel lighting group (Vorarlberg) to be moved from Dornbirn to Langenau (Germany) before the end of this year

Zumtobel Group, a stock-listed Vorarlberg-based lighting company, shifts its finished goods warehouse from Dornbirn to Dachser’s logistics centre in Langenau (Baden-Württemberg). In Langenau near Ulm Dachser has a logistics centre with around 65,000 m² of storage space and 120,000 pallet slots.

The external raw materials and semi-finished goods warehouse in Hohenems in turn will be integrated into the Dornbirn Zumtobel plant, the company informed the Austrian Press Agency APA on 6 March. This was the last step in the optimization of the production process in Dornbirn the group said.

On the site in Dornbirn Zumtobel has invested EUR 20 million last year and opened a new factory building, raising the local production area from 30,000 to about 38,000 m². The outsourcing of the finished parts warehouse was already planned, but no partner could be found last year. Logistics provider Dachser based in Kempten (Bavaria) will now take over this part.

Zumtobel announced that goods transfer and construction of the warehouse will start this October and shall be completed by the end of this year. This move optimises the connection to the other distribution centres of the Zumtobel Group in Europe, which will save about 120 daily truck trips for the residents around the plant site in Dornbirn. The strategic cooperation with Dachser was planned on a long-term, they stated.

According to Zumtobel the move of the finished goods warehouse in Dornbirn affects around 40 people – permanent and leased workers. The group’s aim is to offer alternative employment to all permanent employees said Simone Deitmer, Zumtobel PR Manager. However, this does not mean work will not continue for the leasing workers as well.
