TRANSNAUTIC LAUNCHES IN POLAND

Leading German GSSA Group Transnautic Aero is continuing its international expansion, with the launch of a new Polish operation. The new subsidiary follows the opening of a French offshoot in 2006, and is the latest new member of the EGSAC GSSA network.

Transnautic Aero Poland has already won its first GSSA contract, to represent fast-growing Norwegian Air Shuttle, which operates 26 B737 flights per week from 3 Polish airports direct to 13 destinations, and onward connections via its Oslo hub to over 40 further destinations throughout Europe, the Nordic countries, Russia and Africa.

Transnautic Poland is also representing all but one of its German parent’s contracts on an offline basis, and is confident of adding more airline principals of its own in the near future.

Says Transnautic Aero Group MD Mike Staeck: “Poland is a logical expansion for Transnautic. There are many synergies between Germany and Poland, and Germany is ideally-placed to provide additional flown capacity for Polish importers and exporters, until the number of direct air services into Poland increases.”

Transnautic Aero Poland is based close to the cargo community at Warsaw Airport, the heart of the Polish aircargo industry. It is headed up by newly-appointed Managing Director Waldemar Rybak, former LOT Cargo Manager Commercial. With a subsequent spell in freight forwarding, Rybak is a well-known industry figure with a total of 25 years in Polish Airfreight.

Says Rybak: “Poland is already quite well served by international airlines and low-cost operators. Frequencies are being increased, and new services are being introduced to regional airports such as Krakow, Gdansk and Szczecin. With our strong economy and growing exports and imports, airfreight is becoming steadily more important. This has been identified by a number of carriers, and we expect additional airlines to start operations here within the next few months. It means we have considerable potential to win new airline business.”

For now, Poland’s proximity to Germany – a one-day journey for road feeders between Warsaw and Frankfurt – puts Transnautic in a very strong position, continues Rybak: “40% of longhaul overseas cargo currently leaves by air, but the rest is trucked. As far as European cargo is concerned, only 30% flies and the remainder goes by road.

“Having such a strong presence in Frankfurt and all other major German airports means we can accept cargo for a very large number of destinations, and feed this to gateways in Germany. Our expertise in operating road feeder services means we can provide Polish customers with a reliable, fully-controlled, high-quality service.”

Concludes Rybak: “We are equally happy to talk to online or offline carriers who want to expand their share of the growing Polish market. We can provide a total service, supported by a very strong parent, and our membership of the EGSAC system.”

Transnautic Aero has offices at Germany’s 7 top cargo airports, together with bases in Paris, Warsaw and Moscow. The company was one of the founder members of the EGSAC network, which has over 60 offices in over 30 countries.
