Truck driving ban on the Kleine Walserberg changes sides

The effect will be the same, only the place changes: So far, there was a driving ban for trucks with a gross vehicle weight of more than 3.5 tonnes at the border crossing on the B21 federal road on the German side at Klein Walserberg, to avoid the bypass traffic from the nearby motorway border crossing at Groß Walserberg. The German authorities have announced that they will lift this ban.

In order to further avoid bypass traffic, it is expected that from early February Klein Walserberg on the Austrian side of the B1 will be banned for trucks with a gross vehicle weight of more than 3.5 tonnes. The relevant regulation is being prepared by the district administration of Salzburg.

“As long as the border controls at the Große Walserberg on the German side cause delays in cross-border traffic, truck bypass traffic via the Klein Walserberg is undesirable. However, local traffic in Wals will not be affected by the future driving ban on trucks,” announced Hans Mayr, State Councilor for transport.
