Two new delivery stations for Amazon

It has confirmed that it is building a delivery station in Gateshead next to its latest North East fulfilment centre at Follingsby Max.

Kerry-Anne Lawlor, country director for Amazon Logistics, said the Gateshead delivery station will create dozens of new jobs, in addition to hundreds of driver opportunities for Amazon Logistics’ delivery service partners and Amazon Flex delivery partners.

She said: “We are excited to invest in the Gateshead area with a new delivery station that will provide efficient delivery for customers, and create new jobs for the talented workforce.”

The other new delivery station is in Harlow Essex, where the company has secured a 75,347 ft2 unit. The delivery station will create more than 30 permanent jobs, in addition to over a hundred driver opportunities for Amazon Logistics’ delivery service partners and Amazon Flex delivery partners.

Both units are expected to be fully operational this summer.

Delivery stations power the last mile of our order process and help speed up deliveries for customers.  Packages are shipped to a delivery station from neighbouring Amazon fulfilment and sortation centres, loaded into delivery vehicles and delivered to customers.

The acquisitive internet retailing giant is thought to have upwards of 40 schemes, development and acquisitions coming forward in the UK this year alone.
