Unilever and DHL sign global partnership to drive efficiency, increased sustainability and innovation

Unilever and DHL Supply Chain today announce a milestone in their partnership with a new agreement to collaboratively grow their business relationship. Both have pledged to work together to provide a global, world class service for Unilever and its customers.

A series of collaborative initiatives focused on increased speed to market and efficiency, cost reduction and sustainable practices will help achieve this goal.

These initiatives include improving carbon efficiency and reducing waste within global logistics operations, such as developing innovative new technology. The companies also plan to extend the geographical footprint of existing services offered particularly in developing and emerging markets including Brazil, Russia, India, China and Mexico. Other activities include a ‘design once, deploy everywhere’ methodology to identify, harness, and streamline new and innovative processes across Unilever’s supply chain to deliver optimum performance.

This Joint Business Development Plan (JBDP) is part of Unilever’s ‘Partner to Win’ programme to work more closely with its key suppliers. The  JBDP sets out Unilever’s strategic business plans and provides a clear framework of how DHL and Unilever will work together to deliver them over the long term. These include for example supporting the delivery of the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan commitments and DHL’s GOGREEN initiative, by reducing carbon emissions, cost and waste. The two companies will also drive quality standards; achieve leading levels of customer service; and improve logistics operations by using innovative processes and sharing of best practices globally.

Pier Luigi Sigismondi, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Unilever commented:

“For Unilever it is essential that we work closely together with our strategic suppliers in order to reach our ambition to double the size of the company and halve our environmental impact.  We cannot do this alone. DHL and Unilever have worked together for many years now and both organizations share the same values, passion and goals. This is why we have chosen DHL as a global supply chain partner to support our plans to sustainably grow our business. We are looking forward to working closer with DHL, and to harnessing the benefits of this global partnership.”

Bruce Edwards, Chief Executive Officer, DHL Supply Chain agreed:

“We are committed to building an even stronger and more successful partnership with Unilever. This landmark agreement cements our longstanding history of innovation and excellence with the company.

“We are always keen to work strategically with Unilever to design the best possible solutions and deliver unrivalled services to help the world’s most successful consumer brands achieve their growth, profit and environmental ambitions, and we are extremely excited about this new global aspect in our relationship.”
