With more than 40 guests from Turkei and Austria the first part of the Austrian-Turkish Danube Transport Seminar took place on October 1 in the Servicecenter Wachau of the via donau. The event is the continuation of an initiative of the Austrian and Turkish authorities, started last autumn in Istanbul. Invited by via donau, the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT) and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO), representatives from economy and authorities came to Krems, in order to explore opportunities for a stronger use of the Danube waterway.

The Austrian-Turkish Danube Transport Seminar is a ideal platform to initiate new business ideas, establish contacts and exchange experience", Mag.a Ursula Zechner, head of the department in the BMVIT and head of the Austrian delegation, said in her opening speech in Krems.

This event is a milestone in the development of new markets for the Danube shipping industry. The Danube waterway shall be developed as an alternative for cargo transports between Austria and Turkey in tight cooperation of private and publish institutions. Existing transport chains via the Danube and the Black Sea underline the competitiveness of this connection. In his speech, Hans-Peter Hasenbichler, managing director via donau, emphasised on the significance of this cooperation: “Turkey is an attractive commercial partner for Austria. It is our task to strengthen the Danube shipping industry for the development of these markets".

Thanks to cooperating with the Austrian Economic Chamber the Austrian-Turkish Danube Transport Seminar is to be continued on October 2. In the presence of I.E. Ms. Ambassador Ayse Sezgin a Business-2-Business event and an experts workshop for the represented authorities will provide opportunities for further deepening bilateral relations in the transport segment.
