Austrian Lufthansa Cargo wants to raise its market share

Viennese station of Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa Cargo certified as security hub

Austrian Lufthansa Cargo GmbH (74 Lufthansa Cargo; 26% Austrian Airlines) aims to reach its goal of increasing the market share by two to three percentage points and simultaneously raising synergies at the amount of around EUR 10 million per year. The enterprise covers currently around 30 per cent of the Austrian air freight market. The targeted increases shall be reached through better utilisation of the belly capacities on the long-distance flights of Austrian Airlines (currently 85 per cent), as the managing directors Hasso Schmidt and Franz Zöchbauer announced at a press conference in Vienna.

Austrian Lufthansa Cargo has started on 1 July 2010 with 120 employees at the locations in Vienna, Graz, Linz and Salzburg. The joint venture markets the freight capacities of Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa Cargo in Austria, and coordinates the related handling functions. Moreover the enterprise will be in charge of evolving the Vienna International Airport into another hub of Lufthansa Cargo. In daily business Lufthansa Cargo’s air way bills and IT applications will be used exclusively.

In addition to starting this cooperation Lufthansa Cargo has certified the station in Vienna as a security hub, after a successful audit. Security Hubs are distinguished by exceeding standard security regulations as well as regular inspections. In the past years Lufthansa Cargo has already upgraded the stations Frankfurt, Munich, New York, Chicago and Shanghai to Security Hubs.
