Vienna Airport posts strong growth in freight business

Considerable increase in freight volumes at the Vienna International Airport in the first half of 2010

Vienna International Airport registers a sustainable uptrend in freight business. In the period from January to June the airport handled 148,353 tons of goods (air freight and trucking). This is a 30.4 per cent growth on the previous year’s figure, as Flughafen Wien AG announces in a press release. In June they handled 24,434 tons, which is 25.4 per cent more than in the same month of 2009.

This strong growth is mainly due to a considerable increase in air freight importations from Asia. Volumes on the links from Vienna to East and Southeastern Europe show a rising tendency as well.
