Waberer’s International Zrt. increases the salaries of truck drivers

Waberer’s International Zrt. sets different measures to improve the conditions of its truck drivers and employees

Waberer’s International Zrt. introduced an employee benefits package this July for all the truck drivers in its permanent staff, which includes an average of 6 percent increase in salaries. This is the second time the company has increased benefits: at the beginning of this year it increased minimum wages and followed net salary compensation guidelines of the government. The measures in January and July meant a 300 million forint increase of expenses in the company’s budget. This increase in costs can be covered by the continuous development of Europe’s sixth biggest road transport company: to ensure the smooth execution of an increasing number of transport orders, Waberer’s International Zrt. recruited 100 new international truck drivers in the first half.

Ferenc Lajkó, the company’s deputy CEO in charge of transport and delivery explained that this benefits package is aimed to improve the drivers‘ financial state by improving work comfort and increasing professional skills and competences. By continuously and complexly motivating the employees, the corporation wishes to improve the quality of services to clients.

These measures provide an increase of 15 thousand forints on the average in the salaries of all the truck drivers employed by the corporation. Wage weightings are increased, the decreased salary caused by annual required trainings are compensated, and accident-free operation is rewarded with an annual premium, if the driver caused no damages (including breakages and damages in goods) for the duration of one year, starting in January. Based on the experiences of the first six months, Ferenc Lajkó expects 20-25 percent of the company’s drivers to claim the premium. Mentor truck drivers receive a higher compensation for the training of driver-trainees than before.

Ferenc Lajkó emphasised that the company pays special attention to increasing the comfort of the drivers. Since the larger and increasing share of the transports of Waberer’s International is considered third-country (conveyed bypassing Hungary), it is not unusual for drivers to be away from home for weeks. The consequences of the long absence will from now on be alleviated by increasing the per diem allowances from the 25th day spent abroad. However, the corporate management is willing to work on ensuring that the drivers can spend more time with their families, even if it leads to an increase in costs. Therefore, measures were taken to provide an uninterrupted 72-hours break after all transport assignments ending in Hungary.  To help truck drivers get home, the company also introduced a free shuttle-service between the Mosonmagyaróvár and Budapest offices in July.

Ferenc Lajkó also explained that Waberer’s International introduced numerous other measures to improve the conditions of its employees. It extends the capacities of corporate fuel stations, to decrease waiting times for refuelling. Hungary’s most comfortable driver’s waiting room was recently inaugurated in Budapest, and a similar facility is also provided at the Mosonmagyaróvár premises.
