Waterway supports Prangl in another major project

From Venlo to Vienna-Leopoldau: Prangl has recently arranged the whole logistics supply chain for two boilers and their associated components

With the active support of Prangl two gas-fired hot water boilers were installed at the Leopoldau gas and steam power station in Vienna. The two boilers had quite impressive dimensions: 9.0 metres long, 4.8 metres wide, 4.6 metres high and a dead weight of 76 tonnes each. In addition, two economisers, four boiler supports and miscellaneous small parts have been brought in.

The whole logistics supply chain from the port of Venlo (Holland) all the way to lifting the equipment at the power station was planned, organised and of course professionally executed according to the Prangl motto „Everything from a single source!“.

The equipment was transported by ship from the port of Venlo to the Vienna port of Freudenau, where the individual parts were loaded, using a 500 tonne telescopic crane, onto two 4-axle tractor units each with a 10-axle vessel bridge trailer. The road transport from the port to the power station was carried out overnight.

Timing was critical not only for the parts, but also for transferring the 500 tonne telescopic crane, which had to be fully set up on site and at the ready just the following day. Finally the operation to bring these heavy-duty boilers properly into position was carried out properly.

Due to the height of the goods being transported, the loaded vehicle had a height of 4.8 metres. In order to survive the route unscathed, the operation had to be executed with the utmost care, occasionally driving a walking pace, and lowering the entire convoy down to 4.6 metres, which was only possible thanks to modern special equipment.
