DB Schenker: new combined transport service Baltic Sea – Italy

DB Schenker Logistics offers a new round-trip connection for combined transport between Rostock and Domodossola starting on December 15

DB Schenker Logistics offers a new direct connection for combined transport between Rostock, Germany and Domodossola, Italy. In an addition to the existing block train network, starting on December 15, the new train will run round-trip twice a week, connecting the two intermodal freight transport hubs. The southbound service will be operated on Thursdays and Sundays; northbound on Tuesdays and Fridays. The responsible rail freight company for the whole route is DB Schenker Rail.

“By increasing the density of our network, we offer our customers even more flexibility,” says Christian Stoll from Schenker AG, who is responsible for DB SCHENKERhangartner’s offering as Head of Intermodal. “Our new connection also stands for optimised service and better transit times on the North-South corridor.”

This offers retail and industrial customers the combination of road and rail transports from one source. Pre-carriage and on-carriage are carried out on the road, and over long distances the goods travel by rail in unaccompanied combined transport. “Operating in this manner even allows complex flows of goods to be managed in a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly fashion,” the company informs in a press release.
