Wien Holding’s logistics offer is a strong economic factor

Wien Holding adds EUR 1.3 billion in value; group secures 16,590 direct and indirect jobs

Covering 75 enterprises and about 2,900 employees within the group, Wien Holding is making an important contribution to the success of Austria’s capital as a business location. Against this background the enterprise had collected the value added and the economic benefit of the group.

On August 12 the study was presented by Renate Brauner, Vice Major, the Wien Holding-Management Board Members Peter Hanke and Sigrid Oblak and Agnes Streissler-Führer, author of the study and manager of the company „agnes streissler – wirtschaftspolitische projektberatung”. About EUR 1.3 billion of gross value added in Austria is generated by Wien Holding per year. The lion’s share of EUR 877.3 million (68 per cent) of this value added remains in Vienna. Wien Holding secures about 16,590 direct and indirect jobs in Austria, more than two thirds thereof in Vienna (68 per cent). More than every second euro invested by Wien Holding into their projects and companies, is for the benefit of Vienna’s economy in the form of orders.

“The study clearly underlines the significance of Wien Holding as an important factor for Vienna’s economy and labor market. As a public company, the group must consider the aspects of the common good. The primary driving force is not profit maximization at any cost, but it is all about the value added, i.e. the benefits of these projects and companies for the city and its people,” said Vice Mayor Renate Brauner at a press conference.

According to individual divisions of the Wien Holding, just over one third (34.2 per cent) of the economic effects are generated by the real estate segment, around a quarter by the cultural sector (24.2 per cent) and another quarter by the logistics business segment (25.7 per cent). The rest of the value is added by the media sector, the environmental segment and Wien Holding GmbH itself as a corporate headquarters.

The leading companies of Wien Holding include in the cultural and event segment: Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, Wiener Stadthalle, Mozarthaus Vienna, Haus der Musik, Kunst Haus Wien, Jüdisches Museum Wien, Wiener Sportstätten and Wien-Ticket. The real estate sector of the group includes WSE Wiener Standortentwicklungsgesellschaft, Messe Wien and Therme Wien. The port of Vienna, DDSG Blue Danube, WienCont and Twin City Liner are the flagships within the logistics segment of the group. The largest company within the environmental segment is ebswien hauptkläranlage. In the media sector, Wien Holding is dedicated, among other things to the city station W24.
