XPO invests in 100 electric trucks
Global logistics company XPO has invested in 100 electric trucks from Renault Trucks to add it its fleet in France.
The order is for 16-tonne and 19-tonne commercial vehicles that will be based at 28 XPO sites across France to transport palletised goods. The 16-tonne Renault Trucks E-Tech D was being tested by XPO in Lyon and Paris from October 2021. All of the trucks will be delivered between now and the end of 2024.
Bruno Kloeckner, Managing Director of XPO Logistics France, said: “We had a positive experience testing the first Renault Trucks electric truck for deliveries in urban areas. Our new order for 100 all-electric trucks is an unprecedented agreement for both XPO and Renault Trucks in France.”
He continued: “We have also made a major investment to equip our sites with more than 80 electric charging points. These commitments illustrate our determination to move towards more sustainable road transport and support our customers as much as possible in decarbonising their supply chain activities.”
The manufacturer’s E-Tech trucks have a 185kW engine and a loading capacity of 18 to 21 pallets. The vehicles can travel a distance of up to 155 miles on a single charge and could save an estimated 45.7 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.
By 2030, XPO expects to be making 25% of its deliveries with electric vehicles and ‘aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions in France by at least 25% by 2030, from a 2019 baseline’.
