Yodel switches from handhelds to scanning app for deliveries

Yodel has shifted from hand-held scanning devices for its drivers to a barcode scanning app developed by Scandit.

The couries said needed a scanning app that would work on all models of smartphone to support its “bring your own device” policy for its employed workforce.

Yodel and Scandit developed its app to be used on iOS and Android devices and the software supports more than 20,000 device models.

Drivers can process deliveries while out on the road and confirm proof of delivery in real-time by scanning the barcode.

Adam Gerrard, chief digital officer at Yodel, said: “The app has been deployed rapidly to more than 600 users, on time, with no issues, and has transformed our on-the-road courier experience.”

Yodel plans to use Scandit’s MatrixScan and augmented reality (AR) features in both this app and a new app for service centres.
