Zero-emission delivery by DHL Paket Austria in Vienna-Margareten

At the press conference on 6th July in Vienna, Jörg Leichtfried, Federal Minister, Susanne Schaefer-Wiery, Head of the District Administration (5th district), Jürgen Gerdes, CEO of Deutsche Post DHL Group and Günter Birnstingl, Managing Director of DHL Paket presented the new StreetScooter to the public.

Margareten is the most densely populated district of Austria, with 55,000 people on 2 km². “This tight situation requires special action,” says Susanne Schaefer-Wiery. Electric vehicles are particularly suitable in the fifth district of Vienna, given the stop and go traffic.

The E-StreetScooter, developed and produced by DHL, covers a range of up to 80 kilometres, is emission-free (CO2 or other pollutants) and causes considerably less noise than conventional delivery vehicles.

Jürgen Gerdes points out: “Using already 3,000 vehicles in Germany and 100 in the Netherlands with great success and high reliability, we now introduce the StreetScooter to Austria. In addition, the StreetScooter is now available for purchase by any company or private individual in Austria and across Europe. ”

Within the next few months, also in Styria the last mile will be covered with the StreetScooter. “Such a vehicle – the basic model with a payload of 650 kg – costs EUR 32,000, which is not more expensive for DHL than a vehicle with a combustion engine,” says Jürgen Gerdes.
