16.5 per cent increase in cargo throughput at Vienna Airport

Flughafen Wien starts into the 2011 business year with a shift in the areas of responsibility of its board members

For the cargo segment of the Vienna International Airport the year 2010 took a positive turn. With a total volume of 295,989 it was a year-on-year increase of 16.5 per cent on 2009. Pure air cargo increased 18.1 per cent to 219,334 tons, while trucking was 12,3 per cent higher at 76.655 tons, according to the figures presented by the “new” management board.

Passengers increased 8.7 per cent to 19.69 million persons. The increase in flight movements by 1.1 per cent to 246,146 take offs and landings documents the airline’s strategy to use bigger and more efficient jets.

The change in the management board of Flughafen Wien AG as of 1 January 2011 led to a shift in the areas of responsibility of the individual board members, which is subject to the approval of the supervisory board: Gerhard Schmid, member of the management board, is now responsible for the aviation and handling segments as well as the technical areas of the company. Ernest Gabmann, member of the management board, is in charge of the non-aviation segment (retail and property development) and general construction projects. Christoph Herbst, chairman of the management board, is responsible for finance as well as the Skylink, personnel, strategy, and communications; he also serves as the speaker of the management board.
