50 years anniversary of NachtExpress service

Heinz Harry Kutzner’s business idea brought some fresh air to the logistics industry 50 years ago and is TNT Innight’s core product today

These days TNT Innight is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its NachtExpress service. The enterprise is based on a business idea from Heinz Harry Kutzner from Traunstein in southern Germany, whose night express service was the basis for a new business model of transport logistics in 1964.

Collecting shipments in the late afternoon with delivery the next day before the start of the work, Kutzner closed a gap in the transport market. His company grew continuously and offered the overnight express concept in cooperation with franchise partners all over Germany from 1987, and from 1993 also in Denmark and the BeNeLux countries. In 1995 they established a branch in Austria. At that time, the company operated under the name NET.

In 1996 TNT acquired NET. In 1998 TNT acquired the Jet Services group, also operating in the segment of overnight express services. The offering of NET and Jet Services was merged and has been available since 2007 under the brand name TNT Innight.

Today TNT Innight is by its own account European market leader in the NachtExpress segment. The B2B service provider carries 181,000 parcels in Europe every night and has 72,000 keys to access repair stations, retailers, safes and trunks of the vehicles of service technicians. The main market is Germany, with more than 124,000 parcels per night and more than 50,000 keys managed.

Today TNT Innight has six own national organisations and long term partners representing the enterprise in 26 European countries. The company has about 1,500 emplyoees at 61 own locations. Every night about 2,600 vehicles are in use.
