A.L.I.C.E. 2009: the logistic burden of complex defence operations

International conference about current logistic challenges in complex defence operations of smaller armies

A worldwide recognized problem in military operations is the all-embracing and complex logistical cycle; from deployment to sustainment and redeployment. International co-operations offer challenges in supply chain management, system logistics, personnel logistics, information technology and military healthcare while taking into account the need for maintenance, training, acquisition and supply. The Dutch Ministry of Defence therefore has a new focus: (re)deployment as part of the value chain life cycle, in which civil, military, transport and industry are brought together. These issues are discussed during the two day international conference A.L.I.C.E. 2009 that will take place in Amsterdam RAI on the first and second of October 2009. The conference is being organised by Europoint Conferences and Exhibitions in co-operation with brigadier general Jan Broeks (Royal Netherlands Army), TNO, Capgemini and NIDV. A.L.I.C.E. 2009 offers an exclusive platform in which industry and government together search for innovative and efficient solutions, while exploring new cooperation opportunities.

The conference starts with the altered vision of the Dutch Ministry of Defence on military operations and resulting new chances for the industry. The subject will be pursued with a choice of interactive seminars that will attend to answer questions like “IT; the motivator to optimalise the value chain?” or “Performance based logistics: optimising the supply & value chain?”

The organisers expect that these cases will lead to successful interaction between speakers and delegates. Exchanging views and sharing knowledge will result in innovative solutions en tangible actions for a cost reductive and manageable procedure for managing complex defence logistic operations.

The complete conference programme will be made available soon at the conference website: www.alice2009.eu and includes contributions from politics, defence, research and industry.
