APL takes over the first two 10,000 TEU vessels

10,000 TEU newbuildings make APL’s Asia-Europe liner services more efficient:

The APL liner shipping company has entered a new era. The company of the NOL Group in Singapore took over the first two 10,000 TEU container vessels. The newbuildings were christened “APL Chongqing“ and “APL Gwangyand“. They are replacing two older units on the Asia-Europe route. The management expects significant cost-advantages and lower emissions.

APL is currently undergoing a comprehensive program to modernise its fleet and increase its efficiency. APL will take over 32 new vessels by 2014. According to Group CEO Ng Yat Chung the capacity of the ships will be 10,000 TEU and larger.
