Augustin Quehenberger: More than EUR 20 million new business in 2012

Augustin Quehenberger Group completed restructuring resulting in a profit for 2012; targeted turnover growth of four to five per cent in 2013

‘Mission completed!‘ Based on this motto CEO Christian Fürstaller announced on 22 March that the restructuring of the Augustin Quehenberger Group was completed. The private group employing 2,030 staff at 85 locations 17 countries made a profit in the 2012 financial year – after zero growth last year. They were completely restructured and now focusing on growth, state the company headquarters in Straßwalchen near Salzburg. The management board targets turnover growth of four to five per cent in 2013, based on tailored solutions for different market segments.

Augustin Network’s vehicle fleet was reduced by 100 trucks and integrated into Quehenberger Logistics in 2012. The net revenue lost by this move led to a slight drop in turnover from EUR 413 million to EUR 401 million. Without such a one-off effect from restructuring, organic growth would be five percent. Within a few years, a loss of double-digit millions has become a small operating profit, emphasised CFO Rodolphe Schoettel. At the same time more than EUR 70 million was invested in equipment, sites and systems so that the group was ready for the future.

In the reporting period the Augustin Quehenberger Group acquired new business worth over EUR 20 million. Above all, tailored solutions in transport management with trailer yards and combined inter-modal transport with trucks and trains, as well as outsourcing concepts for the automotive industry and trade were in strong demand in the previous year. Russia led the way as projects for two leading tyre manufacturers and a large German car manufacturer meant that turnover practically doubled.

Expansion into the retail sector with regular supply of stores was continued with several well-known retailers in the non-food sector. To further complement its portfolio, the group took over the majority of the parcel and express service provider X1 EXPRESS, which is being managed as an addition to the Quehenberger Logistics groupage network in Austria, Hungary and Slovakia.
