Austrian Airlines reopens liner service to Tehran

Five weekly flights: After 14 months-break Austrian Airlines reactivates regular flights between Vienna and Tehran from 11 March 2014

Austrian Airlines relaunches its services to the Iranian capital, Tehran, with immediate effect. The flights will be operated five times a week for the duration of the company’s summer schedule, using an Airbus A320 or A319 operating under the flight number OS 871/2. The flights take off in Vienna at 8.10 pm to land at 3.00 am local time in Tehran the next day.

The Austrian airline already had a long tradition with the Middle East, flying to the Iranian capital since 1984. However they hat removed flights to Tehran from their schedule in January 2013 for commercial reasons. These included the strong inflation of the Iranian currency, the rial, and the effects of the economic and political sanctions in Iran. Thanks to the current stability in the country, however, the Austrian national carrier is now able to offer its passengers the service once again.
