AWT freight trains enter the Polish market

AWT transports coal from Poland´s Baltic Sea coast to the heart of Europe

Advanced World Transport (AWT), a large private provider of rail freight services, has transported approximately 2,000 tonnes of high-quality coking coal from the Polish port of Swinoujscie on the Baltic Sea coast to Ostrava in the Czech Republic. Such operations are regular but this was the first time that the entire train has been powered by two AWT locomotives of the 753 series. They travelled a total distance of 1,350 kilometers, of which 1,280 kilometers is across Poland. "AWT carries one and a half million tonnes of goods on the Polish market each year," explained Edin Sose, AWT’s Commercial Director.

The cargo was shipped from the US to Poland by the Ocean Tomo and on Saturday, September 15th, the AWT locomotives began to journey. Both locomotives are "polonized", meaning that they have been customized to meet Polish railway regulations. "They have been fitted with the SHT security system, block radio, adjusted lights and central fire extinguishing equipment," explained Edin Sose.

Coal stored in Swinoujscie port was loaded into 40 wagons of the type Fals on Monday, September 17th and arrived in Ostrava on Wednesday, September¨19th. The high-quality coking coal is being supplied to OKD Koksovny for the second year running.
