bayernhafen Group enforces networking of transport modes in 2009 

Bayernhafen Group reckons with a slump in logistics for 2009 due to market conditions. Nonetheless Managing Director Joachim Zimmermann is keeping all planned and budgeted expansion and modernisation measures. In 2009 the group will implement investments amounting to EUR 14 million (plus EUR 2 million compared to last year). In this context the networking of the transports more are of utmost priority, as the Manager emphasised last week.

The six ports of bayernhafen Group (Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Nürnberg, Roth, Regensburg and Passau) handled exactly 28.1 million tons of goods in 2008. This is a year-on-year increase of 6.4 per cent. The growth area was rail logistics. Rail throughput increased by 15.8 per cent to 5.6 million tons. Goods throughput by inland shipping grew 9.4 per cent to 4.6 million tons. Truck volumes amounted to 17.9 million tons (+ 3.1%). Container transport showed a volume of 181,300 TEU (+ 10%); 174,700 TEU (+ 12%) thereof were handled by railway.
