Takeover of Contaz Lines
Acquiring 100 percent of the shares of the Turkish shipping line Contaz Maritime Transport and Trade S.A., Containerships – a Finish specialist for short sea services – expands its operating area to the Mediterranean Sea. The newly acquired company deploys 4 multipurpose-container vessels to operate liner services from Istanbul and Izmir to the Libyan ports Benghazi, Misurata and Tripoli and to Tunis. Contaz Lines has been established in 1992 and employs around 50 persons at the locations in Istanbul and Izmir. Containerships Ltd. Oy is headquartered in Helsinki and has 450 employees at 15 offices in 13 countries. The fleet comprises 10 container vessels offering capacities between 500 and 1,000 TEU and 12,000 containers of different dimensions. The vessels are mainly operating in the Baltic Sea. In addition to other trades there are liner services available from Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Riga, Klaipeda and Gdansk to Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Ghent, Tilbury and Teesport.
