Insecure economic situation impacts port fees at Port of Rotterdam

Port of Rotterdam keeps port charges stable throughout the year 2012:

Port charges will remain stable at the 2011 level in the Port of Rotterdam next year. Deltalinqs (Rotterdam’s entrepreneurial organisation for port and industry), Port of Rotterdam Authority and VRC (association of Rotterdam’s ship agents) agreed upon this after thorough and constructive negotiations.

The origin of the market consultations was as usual inflation. This increase (1.3%) will be compensated once in 2012. Moreover, due to the insecure economic situation, a 3%-reduction of the port fees will be applied to most of the goods types. Transhipment of containers (sea-sea-throughput/special feeder) and environmentally friendly inland navigation will be promoted financially.

Hans Smits, Director General Port of Rotterdam Authority: “In addition to comprehensive investments of Port of Rotterdam Authority in the port area, we will continue our price policy to stimulate throughput volumes. Crisis rebate in 2010 and recovery rebate in 2011 paid well for Rotterdam. I am expecting the same effect from the reductions for 2012.“
