Scandlines reduces Baltic service

Scandlines cuts capacities on routes to and from Latvia

As a response to the continuous decline in transport volumes – due to the recession throughout Europe – the Management of the Scandlines-ferry shipping line cuts the capacities on the connections to the Baltic States. From January 2009 the service range on the routes from and to Ventspils in Latvia will be adapted to the current market situation, as the company announced in a pres release at the beginning of the week. The Management does not expect the transport market to recover before the end of 2009 or the beginning of 2010.

Scandlines reduces the number of departures on the route from Rostock to Ventspils v. v., which is relevant to freight traffic. By January four departures per week will be available instead of the existing five operations. On the Nynäshamn-Ventspils route the smaller “Ask”-vessel will replace the “Petersburg” RoPax-vessel by January 3rd, 2009. The frequency of departures and the transport time will be unchanged.
