Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo now driving CO2-free

Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo with rail electricity supply ‘railpower Zero‘ of ÖBB-Infrastruktur is contributing to environmental protection

Since September 2013 the railway enterprise Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo (WLC) is supplied with CO2-free rail power ‘railpower zero‘ of the ÖBB-Infrastruktur company. Thus the private railway is making an important contribution to the environmental protection issue, as this partnership will enable the entire fleet of WLC to operate free of emissions in the future. As a sign for this special, good cooperation the 182.527 WLC locomotive was branded in the new ‘railpower zero‘ design. The WLC locomotive is the first and only traction unit in the new design operating on Austrian railways.

Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo is mainly organising block train transport for intermodal transport across Europe. Their core business, accounting for 75 per cent, is intermodal transport. For load wagon transport, accounting for 25 per cent of the transport services, they accept products ranging from cars, chemical and mineral oil products to grain and coal. The enterprise is currently operating 20 electronic locomotives – 15 of them multisystem units and four diesel locomotives of 600 to 1,400 hp.
