Award-winning initiative with model role: Apprentices of Kuehne + Nagel Austria organisie their own social project every year

Kuehne + Nagel has been awarded the “Betrieblicher Sozialpreis 2014” social price 2014 for the project „anchoring social responsibility in apprenticeship“. In the name of the honorary jury Rudolf Hundstorfer, Austrian Minister of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection, handed over the award to company on 21 October.

For six years the „fair-finance“ association has been running an initiative of social company projects in Austria with the aim to collect social ideas and concepts and prepare them to be copied. Based on various best-practice examples a social idea exchange was born.

The award-winning approach to teaching social responsibility has been an important part of the training of logistics service providers since 2011. As part of the apprenticeship initiative more than 60 apprentices from all over Austria organise an independent social major project every year. Besides to creativity, planning application, independence and own initiative, the young employees of Kuehne + Nagel especially show their social commitment.

The previous projects were diverse and ranged from donations for orphans and street children in Romania and Bulgaria, to regular visits to residents in nursing homes or a tombola in support of the Austrian Children’s Cancer Aid (ÖKKH).

Franz Braunsberger, Managing Director of Kuehne + Nagel Austria,

explains: „We want to give social skills to young people on their way in addition to a sound professional training. I am very proud of the social projects of our apprentices and I am sure that still many will follow.“
