DHL Freight will increase tariffs for groupage cargo transport

Passing on external costs: tariff adjustments by up to 5 per cent to ensure high level of service quality for groupage services by DHL Freight

DHL Freight announced that groupage tariffs for 2015 will be adjusted by up to 5 per cent. This was to compensate for the rising external costs of network production, and the only way to maintain the high quality for the less than truckload (LTL) groupage service. Since 2013 the company has invested more than any other LTL groupage provider into automation, network quality and customer service, they state in a press release.

„With the significant external cost challenges this industry is faced with, the market players can only continue to provide shippers with the required quality and technology investments if some of the costs are passed on,“ says Amadou Diallo, CEO, DHL Freight.

The main cost drivers in the domestic and international LTL groupage market include severe wage increases caused by driver shortages, higher administration, insurance and environmental fees (e.g. Marpol), the reduction of average shipment sizes and increased delivery frequencies.

DHL Freight operates in more than 50 countries and territories and employs approximately 13,000 people.
