BMW places order for expansion of DB Schenker warehouse

DB Schenker Logistics increases capacity of the logistics centre in Leipzig by 700 jobs
 
The car manufacturer and DB Schenker-customer BMW calls for bigger logistics capcities. DB Schenker Logistics received an order from BMW to more than double their capacities in the logistics centre in Leipzig, Germany. The logistics centre has been supplying BMW s automotive plants in China and South Africa with components for more than a year. Schenker Deutschland AG is setting up a new logistics centre in Leipzig and will create around 700 new jobs to cope with this order from BMW plants. From summer 2013 a total of 1,500 employees will supply the BMW plants in China and South Africa with components. More than 100 containers shall be packed per day.
 
Since summer 2011 about 8,000 different car components are collected, packed and stowed in containers. Roughly 50 containers are leaving the Leipzig centre every day. They are transported on the seaway to the South African city of Rosslyn, or by rail to Shenyang in China. DB Schenker Rail implements the transport on the almost 11,000 kilometres distance with partners.
