Carinthia’s forwarders launch new initiative for apprentices
On the initiative of the Economic Chamber’s Division for Transport and Logistics, the first state competition for apprentices as forwarders and logisticians took place in Caritnhia. Niko Maier of DB Schenker in Klagenfurt won the first prize, Michael Kleinbichler of Lagermax in Villach came second, and Sabrina Mlinar of Schenker DB in Klagenfurt was awarded third-best.
The Carinthian forwarding and logistics apprentices are the managers of the ports between producers and buyers, and are thus positioned in the center of the economic cycle. “An exciting and varied profession, that is however still unknown to many young people,” says Markus Ebner, Chairman of the Economic Chamber’s Division for Transport and Logistics.
To spread the knowledge about the profession and honour the achievements of the young people, the first state competition for apprentices as forwarders and logisticians was organised on the initiative of the Economic Chamber’s Division for Transport and Logistics. Ten apprentices rose to the challenge and convinced the jury with expertise and passion for their profession. The competition was open to apprentices from the second to the fourth year of training in Carinthia.
“This contest is unique in Austria and everyone has a chance of winning,” said Christof Doboczky from the Talents Academy.
“All participants showed a great commitment, and we felt that they go to work with joy”, says Markus Ebner. Three of them made it to the podium: Niko Maier and Sabrina Mlinar of DB Schenker in Klagenfurt and Michael Kleinbichler of Lagermax in Villach were honored as the best freight forwarding and logistics apprentices in the state. The next year there will be a national apprentice competition for forwarders again.
