CCG agrees on cooperation with the Luka Koper port

Enhanced frequencies of the Graz-Koper shuttle train to open new opportunities for development to the Austrian economy

What Cargo Center Graz (CCG) and the Slovenian Adriatic port of Luka Koper agreed means to be a decisive step for their further development. Their existing partnership will be intensified by a cooperation agreement, initially valid for five years.

Among other things, joint sales activities have been agreed in the contract, in order to increase the frequency of the Koper shuttle train continuously. This means big opportunities in terms of development of the CCG, and can also be an important factor for Styria’s industry in international competition.

„We are pleased that we can continue to cooperate more intense with the Port of Koper in order to fully exploit our joint competitive advantages in the market,“ says Mag. Christian Steindl, CEO CCG. Specifically, the joint activities are meant to add a weekly train per year to the frequency of the Graz-Koper shuttle. Currently, the train runs five to seven times a week.

Increasing the transport volume – especially in exports – is a prerequisite for achieving this ambitious goal. „The acquisition of the necessary contracts is one of the cornerstones of our present cooperation. We will jointly present the advantages of the southern route especially in the Asia-traffic to companies in the Austrian hinterland,“ says Christian Steindl.

The strong economic region of Upper Austria and the western part of Lower Austria, as well as the Vienna area are in the focus of the cooperation partners. These economic areas are linked via antenna connections to the CCG, such as the container train to Ennshafen port near Linz, which currently runs twice a week.

Also for Germany, as a great power in export, the Adriatic ports are gaining importance. “This was one of the key positive findings, which we made at the world’s largest logistics fair in Munich a few weeks ago,“ says the CEO of CCG. Of course, an increase in transport volume on the southern route would be a benefit for both the port of Koper and the CCG in the medium and long term.
