Reorganisation of underway truck controls in Austria
Technical check in accordance with § 58 KFG: ASFINAG to take over technical underway inspections of trucks effective 1 July 2015
The Austrian Ministry of Transport (BMVIT) and the Austrian motorway operator ASFINAG agreed that from 1 July 2015 ASFINAG will take over technical underway inspections – currently carried out by the Federal Institute for Transport (BAV).
These controls include technical check in accordance with § 58 KFG of vehicles of more than 3.5 tonnes and issuing a test report, all which is currently carried out by the police for legal reasons.
Agreements about the technical underway inspections will be made with the affected federal states. Currently, these provinces are Burgenland, Styria, Carinthia, Tyrol and Vorarlberg, where 505 days of inspection wwill be carried out per year. An agreement with Vienna is being negotiated. The federal states of Upper Austria, Lower Austria and Salzburg will make the technical underway inspections by themselves.
A project group and an ASFINAG steering committee were set up for the takeover of the activities. The objective is that ASFINAG will autonomously perform those checks by 30 June 2015.
ASFINAG is currently searching for local, internal employees who are able to carry out the technical underway inspections, and to train them accordingly. For the initial stage of the technical underway inspections by ASFINAG, it should be those who were already working for the BMVIT, in order to guarantee a smooth transition period.
