A change of generations is taking place within the executive board of the Austrian association for waterways and navigation – Österreichischer Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsverein (ÖWSV). The newly formed management has appointed Mag. Christian Steindl its new President on 11 July. His main occupation being the function of the Managing Director of EHG Ennshafen GmbH, Steindl is succeeding KommR DI Dr. Siegmar Hanser.

“My prime target is to strengthen the river shipping industry in Austria and along the Rhine-Main-Danube corridor“, Steindl said in a first statement. In doing so he will receive support from the 1st Vive President Mag. Otto Schwetz, CEO of the pan-European transport corridor VII – Donau, and from the 2nd Vice President Mag. Manfred Seitz.

The recently appointed management board of the ÖWSV is formed by the following persons: Mag. Alexander Klacska as the representative of the Austrian Economic Chamber, Herfried Leiter as the representative of the river shipping industry, DI Christoph Henöckl for trade, DI Christian Mokry as the representative of the industry, Dr. Ralph Gallob as the “frontman” of the logistics industry, Mag. Christian Steindl, Mag. Otto Schwetz and Mag. Manfred Seitz. A representative of the association of industrials (Industriellenvereinigung) is to be appointed shortly. The election of the advisory board will take place in autumn 2011. The management lies in the hands of Mag. Patricia Luger.

The „Österreichische Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsverein“ is the succeeding association of the associations „Donauverein“, which had been established in 1879, and of the „Zentralverein für Fluss- und Kanalschifffahrt in Österreich“ from the turn of the century. After Austria was rebuild in 1945 it was reconstituted in 1951 as „Österreichischer Kanal- und Schifffahrtsverein“ and renamed into Österreichischer Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsverein in 1978. The association is a non-party forum of competent persons and organisations in Austria as well as a contact platform for exchange of information among all European river regions. The Österreichische Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsverein is in contact with more than 1,000 partners.
