Claas charges DB Schenker with new tasks

DB Schenker supports Claas also in airfreight forwarding

The cooperation between Claas, a manufacturer of agricultural machines and DB Schenker was expanded in the field of air cargo. Since recently the forwarding company pulls the strings of the supply of North American Claas customers with urgently needed spare parts. The signed agreement about the cooperation stipulates the regular delivery of about 600 tons of components and spare parts per year from Germany to the United States and to Canada, as well as the management and the transport of reverse shipments to Germany.

Schenker Deutschland AG takes over supply in North America with several spare parts such as special screws, doors, motor components and operating supply items, but also the forwarding of huge cutting devices or tyres for harvesters, field choppers or tractors directly from the plant for Claas Service and Parts. In the global network of the company these parts– independently of their size and weight – are forwarded to the spare parts warehouse of the agricultural machines manufacturer in Columbus, Indiana, within the time window defined by the customer. The DB Schenker-location in Chicago is responsible for customs clearance.

Claas and DB Schenker have been cooperating for 40 years now. Until now they were focussing on rail logistics and aiming at a smooth control of supply chain tasks between the German parent plant and the European markets. Since 2005 DB Schenker Germany connects the German plant of the Claas Group with the Russian factory in Krasnodar, which is situated 1,540 kilometres in the south of Moscow. This is where the end-assembly of large harvesters is effected and components are delivered on the railway from the Westphalian parent plant in Harsewinkel.
