Clariant awards major project to Lehnkering

Special chemicals enterprise Clariant selects logistician Lehnkering to operate its central import centre in Hamburg

Lehnkering and Clariant announce the successful start of their cooperation. Since recently the logistics service provider operates a central import centre in Hamburg on behalf of the special chemicals enterprise. Lehnkering manages the entire warehousing logistics of special chemicals and colourings of its customer. The goods originate from international production are delivered to European clients from Hamburg. From a total of about 22,000 pallet slots at the dangerous goods warehouse Altenwerder, several thousand will be available for Clariant’s usual warehousing and water hazard classes.

For its customer Clariant Lehnkering takes over the complete coordination and management from the arrival of ocean-going vessels to shipping from stock – including value-added services such as repacking, labeling, picking and customs clearance of goods. Clariant is also considering to use the warehouse e.g. for temporary storage of raw materials from Asia, followed by direct supply of German manufacturing plants. The second step planned however, is the use of the storage area for Eastern European customers.

Lehnkering, with sales of around EUR 400 million and over 2,000 employees, is affiliated to the logistics group ‘Imperial Logistics International’. The company provides customers with customised solutions, consisting of traditional logistics services and extensive value-added services.
