Considerable expansion of Lufthansa Cargo’s Japan program

Lufthansa Cargo has 12 weekly freight flights from Germany to Japan in its program from November

Customers of Lufthansa Cargo will be offered even more capacity and greater flexibility regarding the transport of air cargo to and from Japan. On 1 November the airline will increase its offer to 12 flights per week, which is virtually double of the current frequencies. MD-11 freight machines of Lufthansa Cargo will then take off for their daily journey to Tokyo. To Osaka five freight services per week will be on the schedule.

Japan has traditionally been a strategically important market for us and we want to take advantage of the market opportunities that present themselves there,” said Dr. Andreas Otto, Lufthansa Cargo Executive Board member responsible for Product and Sales.

Air cargo traffic volumes between Japan and Europe reflect the high levels of demand from the manufacturing industry. The majority of goods flown to Europe are produced by the electronics and entertainment industry, the automotive manufacturing and engineering industries and the optical, but also solar technology products and components. On routes to Japan, the market is dominated by dispatch solutions for engineering products, medical
technology, vehicles and vehicle parts, pharmaceuticals and also textiles. In addition the transport of Beaujolais Nouveau, for which there is a large clientele in Japan, marks an annual peak in import business.
