Construction starts on Stena’s new RoPax vessels

Work has started on the first of four RoPax ships for Stena which will be used on the Irish Sea routes.

The vessels, which are being built at AVIC Weihai Shipyard in China, will be 50 per cent larger than today’s standard RoPax vessels, which mix freight at passengers.

The vessels will have a capacity of more than 3,000 lane metres in a drive-through configuration and will accommodate approximately 1,000 passengers and offer a full range of passenger services.

“We foresee continued growth within ferry transport and this is an important step in preparing our business for that growth. At this stage, we are planning to introduce the vessels onto the Irish Sea”, said Niclas Mårtensson, CEO of Stena Line.
