Container logistics: Identec Solutions wins major order from Statoil

Norwegian oil and gas enterprise Stratoil and Identec Solutions launch innovative system for container monitoring

Identec Solutions signed an agreement with the international oil and gas company Statoil, they announce in a press release. Their objective is to introduce an innovative system for container monitoring and tracking. The framework contract stipulates the construction and maintenance of RFID-based applications called Watcher CCU at seven supply centres. Identec has started preparational works and plans to start the construction in the second quarter of the year. Completion and release of the Watcher CCU-systems at all of the seven locations is scheduled for the end of 2013.

Watcher CCU is a comprehensive solution for container monitoring and tracking, which integrates several Identec technologies – such as Active RFID tags from the i-Q350 series as well as TrailBlazer servers and Business Logic software. The result is a consistent logistics solution securing real-time surveillance and localising containers. It is an advanced version of the existing solution called Watcher Off-Shore for personal security and alarming of staff working at off shore platforms.

“We have been searching for a solution for container monitoring and tracking for more than three years“, says Magnar Gregersen, logistics specialist of Statoil. “It has been decisive for us that the system informs where the CCUs are located on the mainland, at sea and during transportation. Regarding the difficult environmental factors and with the given problems of container logistics, we knew for sure that we needed a completely new access to reach our aims.“

Identec Solutions AG (Identec) develops wireless solutions increasing efficiency and security under fierce industrial conditions. The company with headquarters in Lustenau was founded in 1999 and as technology leader supplies customers and partners in more than 50 countries with wireless sensor solutions.
