Continued uptrend with Lufthansa Cargo

Lufthansa Cargo AG registers positive development in sales figures and utilisation

There are signs for a continuous upward trend with Lufthansa Cargo AG. Over the first six months of 2010, the enterprise carried 830,000 tons of freight and mail. This is around 20 per cent more than in the same period of 2009. According to Lufthansa Cargo’s figures, freight volume growth was particularly pronounced into and out of Asia as well as to America. Traffic volume in the Asia/Pacific region grew by 24.6 per cent and in America by 31.1 per cent.

The cargo airline has marginally increased capacity in the second quarter. After six months, its growth was 2.3 per cent. Sales rose over-proportionately with 24.9 per cent. Consequently, the load factor in the first six months was up 13.1 percentage points to 72.3 per cent.

“We systematically seized market opportunities in the second quarter and invested in growth markets", says Chairman and CEO Carsten Spohr. With flights to new destinations, such as Tianjin in China and the re-inclusion in the fleet of the temporarily withdrawn MD-11 freighters, the company is well-poised for the second half of the year. Since 1 July, Lufthansa Cargo’s customers can also utilise capacities on flights operated by Austrian Airlines.
