VTG acquires grain transport activities from Ermewa group

Ermewa sells 1,100 grain wagons and 75% share of TMF S.A. to VTG group (Hamburg)

The VTG Aktiengesellschaft has set the course to enter a new business field. On 12 July the Hamburg-based wagon leasing and rail logistics enterprise has signed the sales contracts for the acquisition of around 1,100 grain wagons from the Ermewa Ferroviaire company and for 75 per cent of the shares of the French rail logistics enterprise TMF S.A.. The 75%-share of the bought leasing and transport enterprise for grain was also part of the Ermewa group. The parties have agreed to keep the purchase price confidential. The sales contracts are still subject to the approval by the antitrust authorities.

“Taking over the grain transport activities and the grain wagons from the Ermewa group we enter the European market of grain wagons and the related logistics. We thus create synergies between our business fields wagon leasing and rail logistics“, comments Heiko Fischer, Spokesman of the Management Board of VTG Aktiengesellschaft.

Entering the market of rail transport for grain products, the VTG group takes another step to diversify its wagon fleet in transport markets with sustainable, stable basic transport volumes. The enterprise made its first experiences in this market in Spain, as well as on routes between Germany and Eastern Europe.

VTG buys 75 per cent of the shares of TMF from Ermewa. The remaining 25 per cent of TMF’s share capital are held by Express-Interfracht Internationale Spedition GmbH, a subsidiary of Rail Cargo Austria. TMF generated a turnover of EUR 59 million with 25 employees in 2009. The enterprise is also represented in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany with three small subsidiaries. TMF has transported around 3 million tons of grain in 2009 and is one of the two major providers in the French market.
